Appearance and characteristics Lasiocyano sazimai, commonly known as the Sazima bird, is a species that has gained great popularity due to its phenomenal coloration. It is native to the high mountainous, rocky areas of Brazil. These spiders are characterized by a deep iridescent blue that covers almost the entire body. On the abdomen there may be fine reddish hairs, creating a beautiful contrast with the metallic color of the carapace. This is a classic terrestrial spider with a stocky body that, despite its beauty, does not require huge terrariums. Behavior and venom This species is considered a spider with a moderate and predictable temperament, so it is often recommended to beginners. The Sazima bird spider does not show much aggression; in stressful situations it usually chooses to escape to a hiding place. Like most New World representatives, it has scabbing hairs on its abdomen, which it can comb out when it feels threatened. Its venom is weak and poses no threat to adult health. Breeding conditions In breeding, it requires a terrarium with a horizontal orientation. As a substrate, it is best to use a several-centimeter layer of coconut fiber or peat, which will allow the spider to possibly dig the area. Decorative elements such as a cork tube or roots are necessary to provide safe shelter. The optimal temperature is 25-28°C, while humidity should oscillate around 70-80%. Keep in mind constant access to a bowl of water and proper ventilation of the tank.
