Nhandu chromatus (0.5cm)

The appearance and characteristics of the Nhandu chromatus, known as the Brazilian Red and White spider, is one of South America's most recognizable spiders. The babies on offer are still gray, but in time they will acquire the spectacular colors seen in the adults. This species is characterized by a light gray, almost silvery carapace with a distinct dark spot near the eyes. The legs are black, decorated with distinct, longitudinal white stripes, while the abdomen is overgrown with dense, intense rust-red hairs. It's a spider with a massive body that reaches an impressive size. Behavior and venom This bird is an excellent choice for beginners due to its weak venom and high resistance. However, it should be noted that Nhandu chromatus can sometimes be impulsive and defensive. The main method of defense for this species is to comb the scabbing hairs from the abdomen, which can cause itchy skin for the keeper. It rarely manifests aggression, but its unusual dynamics when hunting can surprise. It is a spider that virtually never refuses food, making it a grateful object to observe. Breeding conditions In the wild, it inhabits Brazilian forests, which means that it requires temperatures in the range of 25-28°C and humidity of about 75-80%. Juveniles of 0.5 cm in size are best kept in small containers with moist substrate (peat or coconut fiber). As a terrestrial species, as it grows, the spider will need a terrarium with a large bottom area. It is important to provide good ventilation and regularly sprinkle part of the substrate to prevent the spider from drying out.
