Description

The appearance and characteristics of Cyclocosmia lannaensis is a spider that at first glance amazes with its anatomy. The most distinctive feature is the opistoma (abdomen), which ends in a hard, flat disc with a precise geometric pattern resembling a tribal seal or coin. This phenomenon is called phragmosis - the spider uses its abdomen as a "plug" to clog the entrance to its burrow, providing an almost impregnable barrier to predators. The offered specimens are 0.5 cm and, although small, already show fascinating features of their species. Behavior and venom This is a typical underground spider (trapdoor spider). It spends most of its life in an intricately dug vertical burrow. It is a secretive and rather slow species, but can be lightning fast when hunting from ambush. It has no scalding hairs, and its venom is not considered dangerous to human health, although any bite can be painful due to its strong jaws. Breeding conditions Breeding requires a specific approach. A tall, columnar terrarium filled with a thick layer of compacted substrate (a mixture of clay and peat) to dig a stable tunnel is crucial. Humidity should be kept at 70-80%, with room temperature (about 24°C). These spiders do not require intense lighting or a large living space, as long as you provide them with sufficient depth for digging.
