Description
Appearance and Characteristics Grammostola rosea red (often referred to as RCF—Red Color Form) is a colorful variety of one of the world’s most famous tarantulas. Unlike the classic form, these specimens eventually become covered in dense, bright hairs in shades of copper and deep red. The juvenile spiders offered are still growing, and with each molt, their colors will become more intense. This species grows slowly, allowing you to enjoy its development over many years, and females can live to be over 20 years old.
Behavior and Venom This tarantula is synonymous with gentleness in the world of terrarium keeping. It is characterized by a very calm temperament and slow, deliberate movements. Like the classic form, the “red” variant may undergo natural fasting periods that last from a few weeks to several months. It has very weak venom, making it one of the safest choices for those just starting their journey with exotic spiders.
Housing Conditions In the wild, it inhabits the dry and harsh regions of Chile. In captivity, it thrives best at room temperature or higher, in the range of 24–29°C, which positively affects its appetite. It requires a horizontal terrarium with dry substrate and constant access to a water dish. This is an exceptionally hardy species that is forgiving of mistakes made by novice keepers and adapts very well to home conditions.
