Description
Pseudhapalopus sp. Colombia is a dwarf tarantula rarely found in the trade, which, despite its small size, attracts attention with its spectacular coloration. Adults display a stunning blend of metallic blue, gold, and orange on their abdomen, making them among the most colorful spiders in the New World. It is a terrestrial species that eagerly builds intricate systems of tunnels and webs.
Behavior and Temperament: Despite its modest size, this spider is very fast and agile. It can be skittish; when disturbed, it usually makes a lightning-fast escape into its burrow. It has stinging hairs, but due to its temperament, it tends to evade rather than actively defend itself. Because of its speed, it is recommended for people who have already had experience with more active tarantula species.
Housing conditions: For a juvenile measuring 0.5 cm (legspan), a small film canister or sauceboat is ideal. They require 75% humidity and a stable temperature between 24–28°C. Moist peat or coconut fiber is best used as substrate. This spider is very voracious and eagerly hunts small feed insects, which—when proper conditions are maintained—allows it to molt regularly.
