Description
Bonnetina minax is a fascinating member of Mexican fauna that remains a rarity in European breeding facilities. This species is highly prized by collectors for its unusual color pattern. Adult females are characterized by a carapace in a shade of dusty pink, which, under the right light, can take on delicate purple tones. This light-colored body part stands out clearly against the dark, deep brown or black abdomen, which is covered with longer, rust-colored hairs.
The legs of this tarantula are also exceptionally attractive. The first segments of the legs (femurs) are deep black, which enhances the contrast with the light carapace. The remaining parts of the legs are covered with dense, gray or silvery hairs, giving them a “frosted” appearance. This subtle yet striking play of colors makes Bonnetina minax stand out exceptionally well against the natural decor of the terrarium.
In terms of temperament, it is a moderately calm spider that prefers to retreat to a hiding place. As a New World species, it possesses stinging hairs. In captivity, it requires a horizontal terrarium with a thick layer of substrate, low humidity, and constant access to a water dish.
