Description
Brachypelma boehmei, more widely known as Mexican Fireleg, is a true gem of Mexican fauna. The offered female presents already fully developed adult colors: a saturated orange-red color on most segments of the legs, which contrasts with the almost black abdomen and bright carapace. This is a species with an exceptionally slow metabolism, which translates into a huge breeding longevity - females can live up to 25 years, becoming long-term companions for any enthusiast.
Behavior and venom This bird is characterized by a very calm temperament. It moves stately and slowly, which makes it an excellent object for observation. As a form of defense, it usually chooses to comb the scabbing hairs from its abdomen, which is typical of terrestrial New World spiders. It has a weak venom that poses no threat to human health, making this species recommended for those looking for a safe and impressive spider for their collection.
Breeding conditions In the wild, it inhabits the dry regions of the Pacific coast of Mexico, so in a terrarium it prefers conditions with lower humidity. It requires a horizontal orientation of the tank with a thicker layer of dry or slightly moist substrate in which it can dig. As an aboveground spider, it likes to use hiding places in the form of pieces of cork oak bark. The optimal daytime temperature should be 25-28°C, with slight dips at night.
