Description
Rachypelma boehmei is one of the most striking species of ground-dwelling tarantulas native to Mexico. It captivates with the intense orange-red coloration of its legs, which contrasts with its black abdomen, making it highly prized by breeders worldwide.
This species is characterized by a calm lifestyle and a slow growth rate. It spends most of its time on the surface or in a prepared hiding spot, making it an attractive display species. When threatened, it most often defends itself by shedding stinging hairs, so it is not recommended for handling.
It is a long-lived species—females can live for over 20 years under appropriate breeding conditions. It prefers dry substrate, good ventilation, and a hiding spot. Thanks to its unusual appearance and relatively simple care requirements, it is a popular choice among both intermediate and experienced keepers.
