Description

Brachypelma emilia, known as the red-colored bird, is a species of spider native to western Mexico. It is characterized by its distinct coloration - a dark brown abdomen and orange-red "knees" (tibia) on its legs, making it easily recognizable. It reaches a body length of up to 6.5 cm, and up to 15 cm with outspread legs. The species leads an aboveground, secretive lifestyle, inhabiting burrows dug in soft soil, often in dry, semi-desert areas. Under breeding conditions, it requires a terrarium of at least 30×30×20 cm, with a thick layer of substrate (such as coconut fiber) to allow digging, a temperature of 24-28°C and a humidity level of 60-70%. According to CITES, the species is under international protection due to the risk of overexploitation of wild populations.
