Description

Appearance and characteristics Davus pentaloris is a real gem in the terrarium world. Although it doesn't reach gigantic size, it makes up for it with spectacular coloration. Its carapace has a copper-gold hue, while its abdomen shows a distinct black-orange striped pattern, to which it owes its common name. These spiders are very active and show a species-specific predisposition to extensively remodel their surroundings with a dense web. Behavior and venom The tiger bird is a defensive species, but usually chooses to escape. It is very fast, which is worth keeping in mind when manipulating the terrarium. It has weak venom, and its main weapon is its scalding hairs, which it can comb out when stressed. This species is known to produce a large amount of spider web, forming dense tunnels and white "carpets" on the substrate, making it very interesting to observe. Breeding conditions In breeding, a container filled with moist peat or coconut fiber will be ideal. Ultimately, this species does not require a large terrarium - standard dimensions for ground spiders will be fully sufficient. The optimal temperature is 25-28°C, with slight drops at night. Humidity should be moderate (about 65-70%), which is achieved by sprinkling part of the substrate once every few days.
