Description
Appearance and Characteristics Euathlus truculentus “blue” is one of the most beautiful representatives of dwarf spiders from South America. The “Blue” variety stands out from other Chilean spiders with its metallic, deep blue hue, which becomes increasingly pronounced as the spider ages. Adult specimens captivate with the contrast between their shimmering blue and darker body parts. This spider grows slowly but is very long-lived, making it a wonderful companion for years to come.
Behavior and Venom Like most members of the genus Euathlus, this species is extremely calm and unhurried. It shows no aggression, rarely uses its stinging hairs, and is considered one of the safest species to keep as a pet. Its venom is very weak. Due to its small size and predictable behavior, it is recommended for people who want to overcome their fear of spiders or are looking for a species to observe in bioactive tanks.
Housing Conditions This species originates from regions with a temperate climate, so in home care it thrives best at room temperature (20–24°C). It does not require intensive heating. Humidity should be kept at a moderate level—it is sufficient to lightly mist one corner of the terrarium once every few days. We recommend a mixture of peat or coconut fiber as substrate. It’s a good idea to include natural decorative elements in the terrarium, such as cork oak bark or dry leaves.
