Description
Hapalopus formosus, more widely known as the Pumpkin Patch, is one of the most coveted dwarf birds in the hobby. The offered pair is an excellent opportunity for breeders wishing to begin the adventure of breeding this species. These spiders are characterized by their unique coloration - deep black contrasts with a bright orange pattern on the abdomen, which resembles miniature pumpkins.
Appearance and Features: This is a spider with small target size, making it an ideal choice for those with limited terrarium space. Despite its small size, its colors are extremely intense from the early stages of development. They build interesting web-like structures, often transforming the interior of the container into a maze of corridors.
Behavior and venom: Hapalopus formosus is a defensive and fairly fast species, but its venom is considered weak, making it a safer choice than Old World species. This spider rarely shows aggression, usually choosing to escape into its burrow. It has scalding hairs that it can use in situations of severe stress.
Breeding conditions: as an aboveground spider, it requires a terrarium with a horizontal orientation with a layer of moist substrate (such as coconut fiber or peat). It is important to maintain a temperature of 24-27°C and moderate humidity. It readily accepts food adequate to its size - from fruit flies to small cockroaches.
