Description
Lasiodora parahybana - "giant birder".
This is one of the world's largest birds, reaching up to 30 cm in leg span. It is native to northeastern Brazil, where it inhabits humid tropical forests. It is characterized by a blackish-brown body with long light brown hairs. Females can live up to 20 years. It is a terrestrial, peaceful species, but in a threatening situation it can dynamically accelerate and defend itself by combing the scalding hairs from its abdomen.
Due to its impressive size, gentle disposition and ease of breeding, it is a popular choice for both beginners and experienced lovers of exotic arachnids.
