Messor barbarus is a species of harvester ant native to southern Europe and North Africa. It is prized by keepers for its calm temperament, distinct caste system, and very interesting behaviors. These ants collect and store seeds, which they use to produce food for the colony. Workers vary in size—from small ones to large majors with powerful mandibles. The species is easy to breed, making it ideal for both beginners and more experienced breeders. The colony thrives best at a temperature of 24–28°C, with access to water and a seed mix. We offer a healthy colony with a queen and 20–30 workers (Red Morph), ready for further growth.
