Pamphobeteus sp. Machala
Description
Pamphobeteus sp. Machala is an impressive, as yet undescribed species of ground-dwelling tarantula native to the humid forests of Ecuador. It is one of the largest members of the genus Pamphobeteus, with a leg span of up to 20–22 cm.
The most striking feature of this species is the adult males, which develop an intense violet-purple coloration as they mature, making them among the most spectacular tarantulas available in captivity. Females are robust, velvety brown, and also look exceptionally impressive.
This is a fast-growing species with a very healthy appetite. It usually behaves calmly, but when threatened, it prefers to flee or release stinging hairs. For proper care, it requires a spacious terrarium with a thick layer of substrate, a hiding spot, and moderately high humidity.
