Description

The appearance and characteristics of Euathlus manicata in the "Green" variety is one of the most charming small birds available in the hobby. It differs from its more popular cousin (the Gold variety) by the metallic, olive-green coating on the carapace, which can fall into blue tones in the right light. It is a dwarf species, reaching a small size, which makes it an ideal inhabitant for aesthetic mini-terrariums. These spiders grow slowly, but are long-lived and very resistant to breeding errors. Behavior and venom This species is synonymous with tranquility. Euathlus manicata green shows practically no aggression, making it an excellent choice for people who fear fast and unpredictable spiders. Its venom is very weak, comparable to that of a bee sting, and the spider rarely chooses to comb out its scalding hairs. It spends most of its time quietly patrolling the terrarium or sitting in front of its hiding place. Breeding conditions Breeding this bird is not very demanding. As a high-altitude spider from Chile, it prefers moderate temperatures (ideally 21-23°C) and does not require additional heating in a home environment. The substrate should be slightly moist, but not wet - this species is badly tolerant of too high humidity and lack of ventilation. As decor, a piece of cork oak bark and a clump of moss will be enough to help maintain the microclimate.
