Description
Chilobrachys natanicharum, previously known in the hobby as Chilobrachys sp. Electric Blue, is a true phenomenon of nature native to the mangrove forests of Thailand. This is a species that has revolutionized the terrarium market thanks to its incredible coloration. The legs and chelicerae (jaw-like appendages) of this female shimmer with an intense, metallic blue that, depending on the angle of the light, can take on shades of purple. This contrasts with its dark, velvety carapace and abdomen.
Behavior and venom: As a typical representative of Old World tarantulas, C. natanicharum is characterized by great speed and a defensive temperament. This spider lacks stinging hairs, so when threatened, it relies on its venom and a lightning-fast attack or escape. Females of this size are already very confident and actively defend their territory. Due to the potency of its venom and its dynamic movement, this species is intended exclusively for experienced keepers.
Housing conditions: This species thrives in a humid environment. It requires high humidity (approx. 80%) and a temperature range of 25–28°C. In the terrarium, the female will create an extensive web, often connecting it to tunnels dug into the substrate. Provide a thick layer of moist substrate and numerous decorative elements (e.g., roots) to serve as a framework for dense nests. Effective ventilation is very important to prevent stagnant air.
