Description
Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens, commonly known as the Green Bottle Blue (GBB), is a species that belongs in every collection. It originates from the dry, semi-arid regions of Venezuela, which makes it exceptionally hardy and easy to breed. This female already displays stunning colors that make the spider look almost unreal. The GBB is famous for being extremely voracious and growing quickly, which brings a great deal of satisfaction to the breeder.
Behavior and Venom: This is a very active and spectacular species. Although it can be skittish and runs quickly, it rarely shows aggression. It has weak venom and stinging hairs on its abdomen, which it uses to groom itself when stressed. Due to its resilience to keeper errors and its tendency to stay “in plain sight,” it is an ideal choice for both beginners and experienced terrarium keepers.
Housing requirements: The GBB is a master of web-spinning. In a short time, it can cover the entire terrarium with a dense, white web, creating spectacular tunnels. It requires dry substrate—excessive moisture is not recommended for this species. Simply refill the water dish regularly and mist the web once in a while. The decor should include numerous elements, such as roots or branches, which the spider will use as a framework for its impressive webs.
