Description
Avicularia minatrix is one of the most sought-after species in the genus Avicularia, native to the tropical forests of Venezuela. It is a miniature tarantula, making it an ideal inhabitant of smaller, vertical terrariums. This species captivates with its unique coloration: its dark abdomen features intense, brick-orange stripes, and its legs have characteristic light-colored tips typical of “Pinktoes.”
In terms of temperament, it is a calm and secretive spider, though it can be very agile and nimble. It shows no aggression and, when threatened, escapes. Due to its smaller size and specific sensitivity to environmental conditions, this species is recommended for keepers who already have some experience maintaining stable conditions in tree-based terrariums.
Housing conditions must account for this species’ sensitivity to poor air circulation. Perfect ventilation and maintaining high humidity are crucial. The terrarium should be equipped with cork tubes and vegetation that will allow the spider to build dense, tunnel-like webs, where it spends most of its time.
