Description
Brachypelma klaasi is a unique species of ground-dwelling tarantula native to western Mexico. It captivates with its velvety black coloration and intensely red-orange hairs on its abdomen, making it one of the most beautiful and sought-after members of the Brachypelma genus. Due to its unique appearance and relatively limited availability, it is a true gem in the collections of experienced breeders.
This species leads a terrestrial lifestyle, spending most of its time near its shelter or at its entrance. It is characterized by a calm temperament and a slow growth rate. When threatened, it most often uses its stinging hairs as its primary form of defense; therefore, frequent handling of the animal is not recommended.
It is a long-lived species—females can live up to 20–25 years under appropriate husbandry conditions. It prefers dry substrate, good ventilation, and access to a hiding spot. Brachypelma klaasi is particularly prized by experienced keepers, who appreciate its unique coloration, calm nature, and the prestige that comes with owning one of the most striking species in the genus Brachypelma.
