Description
Psalmopoeus reduncus is a fascinating arboreal tarantula inhabiting the rainforests of Costa Rica. This species is distinguished by its subdued, exceptionally elegant appearance. It has a uniform olive-brown coloration that takes on a distinct golden or coppery sheen under the right lighting. It is one of the smaller members of its genus, which, combined with its arboreal lifestyle, makes it an ideal choice for keepers who prefer compact species.
Behavior and Temperament: This spider lacks stinging hairs, a characteristic feature of the genus Psalmopoeus. However, it is extremely fast, agile, and nimble. Although it is usually skittish and tends to flee to its burrow, it can become defensive when cornered. Due to its active nature, this species is recommended for intermediate-level keepers who already have experience with tree spiders.
Housing requirements: For a juvenile measuring 1.5 cm, a vertical enclosure with good ventilation and a layer of moist substrate is required. As a tree-dwelling species, it readily uses decor items, such as vertically placed pieces of cork bark, to build dense tunnels out of spiderwebs. It requires a humidity level of about 75% and a temperature range of 24–27°C. It has a hearty appetite and a steady growth rate.
